Inspiration from Land & Sea

First Snow of the Year in New England 2021

December 9, 2021 · Gardening, My Garden Updates

I was incredibly excited yesterday when I looked out my window during a break at work to see tiny snowflakes waltzing their way through the sky. In all my excitement I ran down the stairs, threw on my jacket and boots and made a beeline straight to the garden. It was the first time I saw the garden in a coating of magical snow.

I think there is just something so peaceful about winter. It embodies stillness and embraces respite, both welcomed after a year of buzzing in the garden. I also cherish living in New England as we get to experience all four seasons in all their glory. Each season does bring on their own unique challenges, however I like to think I’m a hardy Mainer ready to take them head on! The weather here can be fairly extreme at times especially in the winter, with below freezing temperatures and snowbanks taller than me! What keeps me going is knowing spring will be just around the corner and that show of colors will be absolutely spectacular. For now, there’s snow 🙂

FIRST SNOW OF THE YEAR

How beautiful does the garden look with its first dusting of snow and twinkling with the lights?! I swear, each season I see something different that I fall in love with. I know it’s just a start, but I am really looking forward to sharing the gardens progress with you all.

OUT THE FRONT DOOR AND INTO THE GARDEN

I hope to do little garden updates along the way and hope you join me. What gets you excited about your own garden? For me, it’s the little things like a small coating of snow. Sure completing big projects are rewarding, but also being able to pause for a moment and relish in the moment is just as satisfying. From my small garden to yours, happy holidays!

A quiet winter week spent sowing seeds indoors and potting up early spring plants. This video is less about doing and more about being: moving gently, noticing small moments, and letting winter be a season of calm work. I hope it brings you a little warmth and ease. 🤍🌿

Thank you for all the love, patience, and thoughtful messages while I took a step back. This season has been about slowing down, healing, and practicing what I believe in, living gently and intentionally. If you’re feeling called to pause and fill your cup, I hope you give yourself that permission. I’m so grateful for this community. 🤍

P.S. I hope you enjoyed seeing a little bit of what I was up to this past fall. I'm feeling ready to enter the next garden season with renewed optimism.
